0 years old and still a teenager in the developing stages. That’s how 2nd year Music Director, Jose Luis Gomez, describes the Tucson Symphony Orchestra. Being able to direct a musical group with a strong foundation, yet still in its formative years, is part of what drew him to the position in Tucson.

In this extended interview we learn much more about the childhood of Jose Luis Gomez and the path that led him around the world and eventually to Tucson. We also touched on his ingenuity with social media to engage with a new audience- Tweet Seats is what he calls them.
Interestingly I found that both he and the featured performer at this Friday’s concert, Midori, had major musical moments around age 11. That led us in our conversation to the importance of youth orchestra and a unique Tucson program for Young Conductors.
