We just finished up our housing for good podcast and something we started doing because we realized that in the effort to make Tucson great, in the effort to run a successful business, the effort to run a family, sometimes you get challenged with the time of the day and the amount of hours in a day. So what kind of suggestions or tips do you offer to agents that are trying to balance these out? What are your habits that keep you sane?
Billy Mordka
Um, definitely you can get wrapped up very quickly and, um, things that I say, no one cares about. And I say that in a genuine way, there’s a lot of things that you start focusing on. And if you take a step back and you go, why am I doing this? It’s almost like busy work just to be busy. And so something that I’m always trying to do is saying like, am I actually working on something or am I busy doing something that is actually going to produce anything down the road or is it me just kind of like falling into a pattern? So that’s something that I always do is try to really drill down and make sure it’s something that is productive. And then obviously I always try to schedule, um, you know, time with my wife. And now that I have a kid, um, definitely I always try to, um, I always like being there when he wakes up and I like being there when he goes to bed. So and then of course during the day as well, but it’s I think it’s important just to have like quality time. That is a pattern to make sure that you know.

And you said something in the other interview that I was pretty powerful because you had you had been running Stewarding the the soccer shootout at Fort Lowell shootout for 15 16 years. I volunteered for 16 years. I ran it for four and as you were coming to the end of your tenure, you mentioned you were stepping into a leadership role at the Association and and then soon realized that you were gonna start in the foster and potentially adoption program. So you took kind of a tough choice and stopped in that role. I mean, that’s gotta be a tough challenge to make that decision.
Billy Mordka
Yeah, I mean, it’s, you follow your phases of life and you follow your passions. And I am a true believer. I think right now, a lot of people would agree, like, you know, you look at the Congress people. Some people stay too long, but, and that’s a big thing with me is like, once you, if you have a goal and you know what your strengths are, go in, do your strengths, and get out. You always have to leave it better for the next person and you hope the next person has the skills that you don’t.

I think at the end of the day, it’s keeping yourself healthy because it’s hard to help a community, it’s hard to run a business, take care of your family, if you physically and mentally aren’t connected to what you’re doing every day.
Billy Mordka
Yeah, and you have to have a good sense of humor. You have to laugh at yourself, which is something that me and you do well. We always laugh at ourselves. Who’s laughing at me?
Tom Heath
I don’t know if I’m laughing at myself. Oh, that’s just rude. Billy Morka, very successful in the commercial and residential side. Past president of the Tucson Association of Realtors. Longtime volunteer, key member of the Fort Lowell shootout. Recently went through the foster and adoption process of a young child and has managed to stay sane through all of it. So, and I use that term loosely with you, but.
Billy Mordka
Yeah, I mean, a doctor hasn’t told me I’m sane, but I’ll take your word for it. Oh, you don’t.
